Middle School After-School Program Assistant (Part-time)

M-F 2pm-6pm
August 8, 2016 – June 5, 2016
(Following the CUSD school calendar)

About the program
Crash Zone (CZ) is an afterschool program for middle school students located at West Valley Presbyterian Church in Cupertino. We provide students with a safe friendly environment to come do their homework, watch a movie, play games, or just hang out with friends.

About the position
Qualified candidates must enjoy working with middle-school students. The right candidate will have the personal skill set to connect with and build relationships with the students. Other qualifications would be the ability to follow instructions, a good grasp of the English language, and the willingness to be trained to understand Crash Zone policy and procedure.

Specific Job Duties
a. Daily setup and preparation of snacks – Each day, CZ assistants are responsible for setting up any classroom materials. Snacks and water will be provided to students at 3pm and occasionally again later in the day. CZ assistants will be responsible for setting out water, cups, snacks, plates, napkins or any other materials necessary for that day.
b. Student Check-n and check-out – All students are required to sign in when they arrive on campus. Parents are required to sign their student out at pick-up. CZ assistants will need to ensure that the sheets are available each day and that all students are signed in and out.
c. Room/Outside Supervision – Depending on the area each CZ assistant is managing for the day, the assistant will be responsible for helping students with homework as needed (we are not a turoring center and do not provide turtors), helping resolve conflicts, playing games inside as well as organized outside activities, facilitating movies, having conversations and building relationships with the students. Any issues that cannot be handled one-on-one with students will be referred to the Crash Zone Coordinator.
d. Daily Cleanup – CZ assistants will be responsible for clean up and organization of all Crash Zone rooms. All snack materials will be returned to the kitchen and put away and the kitchen will be cleaned each day (dishes washed and put away, counters wiped down, etc.). All classroom supplies will be put away. Any messes are to be cleaned up and all garbage thrown away.

Any candidate being considered would be background checked.

Crash Zone is not a religious program, however, some knowledge of church life and culture would be considered a plus.
